Christine Montague, B.F.A., B.Sc., is an award winning, academically trained artist who creates realistic figurative landscape and portraiture oil paintings for the collector who appreciates art that is emotionally inviting and technically strong. Inspired by the people and the scenery close to her, Christine’s models are often her children, and the locales are usually those of her travels, or of the historic mill where her studio is located. CHRISTINE MONTAGUE ARTIST STATEMENT I HAVE TWO GOALS FOR MY LARGER PAINTINGS. The first is to create the illusion for the viewer that they are there "in the scene" of the painting. I accomplish this by the sheer size of the work and by the viewpoint. The second goal is provoke a positive reaction, but one without sentimentality, to what is happening in the painting. This I achieve through careful thought to subject matter, colour, composition and once again, scale. I only paint that which I truly feel affection for, and although a confident painter , never paint with the goal of being prolific. During creation, each of my paintings is the love of my live and is the sole subject of my devotion. That is, until the next... STATEMENT ABOUT MY PAINTINGS OF CHILDREN I have always enjoyed solitude and this fact has played an important part in my life as an artist. As a child, I found solitary moments to be associated with creativity , exploration, and sometimes even mystery and adventure. When I paint a scene of a child alone, I am not painting a child who is lonely. This child is so engulfed in daydreaming, playing or exploring, that he or she is blissfully unaware that the viewer, like a parent, is fondly sitting by her side or standing protectively behind him SELECTED BIO FOR CHRISTINE MONTAGUE 2005 SOLO SHOW: "Singular", People & places .
